SICILY: "V-LAB", OBSERVATORY ON GRAPE AGRONOMIC TECHNIQUES, OPEN TO INSTITUTIONS AND WINERIES

Network and share know-how on the wine sector to raise the quality of production and export the brand "made in Sicily" worldwide.

Ten years of analysis and research that trace the entire Sicilian wine industry, through a study of the territory: an archive of data that represents a historical memory and that highlights climatic and productive trends that characterize the different vintages in the reference areas.

Colomba Bianca – one of the largest Sicilian wine cooperatives, which covers the territory of Trapani with 6,800 hectares of vineyards and 2,480 members – with the aim of offering a support tool to apply the most appropriate agronomic techniques aimed at the productive stability of vineyards, Thursday, May 26 will inaugurate the new Sicilian hub “V-lab”. A digital center open to the Authorities, to the entrepreneurial realities of the supply chain and to all those who want to create qualified paths with the aim of raising the quality of the wines of the island.

The context will be that of the presentation of the X edition of the book “The grapes tell“, which will take place in Marsala, May 26 at 18.00 (Juparanà, Piazza Francesco Pizzo 11). We want to make our know-how available to the Sicilian Region, local entrepreneurs and all citizens, sharing data and information that over the years have increased the value of our work – stresses the vice president of Colomba Bianca Filippo Paladino – a project that involved agronomists, experts and a Technical Group Viticulture, It has drawn up a real plan of plant protection and agronomic control of the grapes. The goal – also in consideration of the growing number of farmers who choose to produce organic – is to create a real network that speaks of Sicilian viticulture and that exports to the world the quality of our grapes and our wines».

The data collected allow in fact to extrapolate a series of useful information to guide producers: from the most suitable areas for the production of red, white and sparkling wines, to the maturation curves to schedule the harvest periods, The European Commission is proposing that the European Union’s wine-growing sector be developed in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.

Our sector, especially in this phase of development, needs shared choices – continues the president of the cooperative Dino Taschetta, a reality that every year gives 500 thousand quintals of grapes in 7,000 hectares of vineyards, of which 2,000 in organic farming – and great teamwork, in a different perspective from the past, without selfishness and parochialism, with the desire to exploit together, synergically, the brand “made in Sicily” to enhance the image of our wines and become Ambassador in a global and international scenario. With V-lab we want to launch an activity of interaction and dialogue between all the actors of the supply chain. Until now our focus has been mainly on the territory of Trapani, but the future goal is to extend the same meticulous work throughout the region».

The publication data of “The grapes tell” will be available on the website www.colombabianca.com, where on the occasion of the birth of the project “V-lab” was activated a digital counter available to all those who want to talk with the technicians of Colomba Bianca. A privileged Observatory that will also be available to the Regional Department to the branch for any use at the planning and institutional level.
